How do you get across the pits in Secret Bases in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald?

I really want to make my Secret Base in a far corner of the desert, but the main detracting factor is that damned two-tile pit that I can never cross. Please help!

Solid boards can be used to cover up holes in a Secret Base, allowing the player to cross them and expand their base.

In order to get across the holes, you need to buy boards. You can buy boards at the sale that Lilycove Department Store holds randomly on the roof.
