I need help with berry farming?

I'm playing Y and I'm growing EV reducing berries so I won't have any trouble with EV training later. I can only grow one right now, the Qualot Berry, because I restarted my game. I read that in order to get an EV reducing berry is to use Surprise Mulch and the right combination of berries. I have the mulch but do I put the mulch in both plots of soil or just one? I only did one and I don't know if it's going to work but I guess we'll see in two days.

Okay so, for the people who had the same question as me: the mutated berries will grow on whatever tree that you've used Surprise Mulch on. So, if you put Surprise Mulch on both plots of soil, the mutated berry will appear on both trees. You only get one though. After that, you don't have to worry about the mulch. Now you can start growing whatever EV reducing berry you've got.
