What effect would occur if a Pokémon with Contrary ate a Lansat Berry?

Imagine you have a Serperior with its hidden ability Contrary. It is holding a Lansat Berry (boosts Critical Hit ratio when consumed) and eats it. Would the Critical Hit ratio be boosted, effectively bypassing the negation from Contrary since there is no negative modifier for critical hits? Would the berry instead never be consumed?

It would probably just raise the crit ratio as usual because I don't think it is considered a stat. And there aren't any moves that I know of that lower crit ratio.
