"What do you look like" NPCs?

Question

Do the NPCs that say "You look like a (blank) right?" And when you select no, they say, "Then what do you look like" with a list of types of NPCs in the game. Do they serve any purpose at all? I think theres one in Fortree City, and maybe some/a Pokemon centre too.

In previous Gens they determined your WiFi sprite (Ace Trainer, Swimmer, Bug Maniac, etc.), but I'm not sure if that's the case in Gen VI.

They determine your sprite in the PSS.

Thanks, tried it out and it did change it. Seems useless though because you can change it yourself in the PSS
