Can items be cloned?

Question

Say I wanted to clone my Leftovers. I put it on the Pokémon that I want to clone, and the cloning is successful. Will the Leftovers clone with the Pokémon, or will it not? Is there a chance of it vanishing?

This will be between Pokémon X and Omega Ruby.

The item attached to a cloned Pokémon WILL be cloned as well since it is held by the cloned Pokémon and technically the item is being traded as well.
