PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I am entering the Pokémon Generation Showdown, as I have stated in several previous questions, and I have five out of six Pokémon ready. The final 'Mon is going to be my Trick Room counter, which I have discovered is likely to be a popular playstyle. Cresselia is going to be one of the top TR setters, so I had to counter her as well. I have three lined up. In order of preference, they are:

  • Thundurus (Incarnate) EDIT: I have him now.
  • Mega Mawile
  • Mega Slowbro

The thinking is that I can run a second Mega for when I'm not running my second, which is very fast and suffers from TR. I looked through all of the slow Mega Evolutions (I'll get to Thundurus in a bit) and, after eliminating Sableye, Camerupt, Steelix and Aggron, I was left with Mawile or Slowbro.

The reason I would run Mawile is because she checks Cresselia and can take advantage of Trick Room. This would be the ideal Mawile:

Mawile@ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate > Huge Power
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Brave Nature
- Iron Head
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch/Crunch
- Protect/Swords Dance

However, my Mawile suffers from four-moveslot syndrome. Sucker Punch means that Precipice Blades and Dragon Ascent cannot be spammed so freely, but I lack the ability to check Cresselia because it would replace Crunch. Protect is to guard against spread Ground attacks and Fire Blast, but I also need SD in order to break through walls. Without Sucker Punh I am vulnerable, without Crunch I cannot check Cress, without Protect I am Groudon fodder, and without Swords Dance I cannot 2HKO bulkier threats. Also, using Mega Mawile would make half of my team weak to the oh-so-common Precipice Blades and Earthqauke.

My second choice was Mega Slowbro. While he cannot "check" Cresselia per se, he can tear through things in TR with that base 30 Speed. Here is what he would be:

Slowbro@ Slowbronite
Ability: Own Tempo > Shell Armour
EVs: ???
Sassy Nature
- Slack Off
- Scald
- Calm Mind
- Toxic

Slowbro can destroy under TR with Calm Mind + Scald, spreading Burns here and there. Toxic is how I deal with Cresselia, as the combonation of Toxic poisoning and attacks from my partner will wear it down quickly. The EVs are what I am having difficulties with, but I'll figure that out eventually.

My first and foremost choice is Thundurus, however there is one problem: I don't have one. I think I can get one before the competition starts, but I'm not certain. Anywho, here's what he'd look like:

Thundurus@ ??? (Sitrus Berry?)
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 SpA / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Taunt
- Dark Pulse
- Thunderbolt
- Nasty Plot/Protect

Thundurus could easily be the best TR counter out there. He can Prankster Taunt Cresselia before she can even move, then KO with Nasty Plot + Dark Pulse. I could drop Nasty Plot for Protect so I'm not left vulnerable to Rock Slide. My only real problem with Thundurus is his item. Sitrus Berry, Leftovers, and Life Orb are all being used by other team members. I could consider replacing him with Klefki and using the Leftovers, but then I would lose my Prankster Thunder Wave and Swagger.

Please provide two parts t oyour answer: one between Thundurus, Mega Mawile, and Mega Slowbro, and one just between Mega Mawile and Mega Slowbro. Also, if you could help me with certain undecided aspects of these Pokémon, that would be fantastic!

(The rest of my team's in the comments.)

Thundurus isn't that hard to get so long you ain't running HP Ice (you may want to SR to obtain one, which is silly)
btw, if you could just tell us what's the rest of your team, we may help you more for the choice between these 3 Pokemon.
Okay, I will. Would you suggest HP Ice over Dark Pulse?
HP Ice is extremely useful actually, but if you already have a Pokemon who can take care of Ground- and Dragon-types, it shouldn't be the most important issue.
I would actually chose MMawile because I am skeptical about MSlowbro's usefulness in Doubles and because you have Omega Ruby and not Alpha Sapphire, and it will be hard to manage a Timid Thundurus..
The rest of the team is:

Togekiss@ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: Enough to live a Rock Slide from Garchomp
Modest Nature
- Dazzling Gleam
- Follow Me
- Wish
- Protect

Rayquaza@ Life Orb
Ability: Air Lock > Delta Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Ascent
- Swords Dance
- Extreme Speed
- Waterfall

Dialga@ Choice Specs/Weakness Policy
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 248 HP / 8 Def
Modest Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Thunder
- Flash Cannon
- Fire Blast

Groudon@ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Bulk Up
- Precipice Blades
- Fire Punch
- Rock Slide

Klefki@ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Impish Nature
- Foul Play
- Protect
- Swagger
- Toxic/Thunder Wave
@Guillotine: I'm getting someone to gen me a Thundurus.
I don't know how to vgc ;(
Definitively Thundurus. I ain't the best in doubles but your team needn't 2 Fairy/Steel + MSlowbro may not work in your fast-looking team.
Thanks for the suggestions, I got a perfect Thundurus and I'm running Thunderbolt/Taunt/Dark Pulse/Nasty Plot. His Hidden Power is Dragon.
Prankster+Taunt for Anti Trick Room
Wait, you thought of using Mawile to counter Groudons?

:l If I was an intimidated primal groudon, I wouldn't care about a mega mawile even if it's got 2x attack and sucker punch.

Also I recommend that Thunderus, prankster taunt isn't bad.
No, more of a desperate counter. He real purpose is to slam TR teams. But I've already decidedd on Thundurus, so meh.

you could also use a prankster whimscott which almost guarentees death and can counter any trick room setter

nature: relaxed speed decreased defense increase. since speed is not needed due to prankster ability. defense is needed though
item: leftovers

leech seed: actual damaging stalling move that also heals you along with leftovers
subsitute: prevents status moves to effect you including taunt and makes attack not attack you for a while. subsitute wont get rid of much health only 1/4 and due to 2/16 from left overs and leech seed you'll get that health back in two turns.
protect: just in case health is low due to subsitute use this for an extra turn to gain 2/16 health,
taunt/encore: taunt to prevents others to taunt you. or encore to make people use the same move over and over status moves wont effect you due to subsitute or protect and almost never you'll take a hit so either way it's great for you.

this can destroy sweepers tanks or trick room sets easily.
