You're totaly wrong. In gold, like heartgold you pick-up totadile, cyndaquil and chikorita. (charmander, bulbasar and squirtle are avalible in firered, leafgreen etc.)
If you want to tell: ''how can I get charmander in heartgold'' there are 2 ways.
1)Migrate from GBA (firered, leafgren...)
2)Go to pallet town (after beating the Red). Professor Oak will give you the choice between the 3 generation I starters, where you can chose charmander.
