Why people say Lati@s over Latias?

I don't know if Lati@s is Latias or Latios but since @ has a ''a'', I think is Latias..
Some questions, answers, comments and even if you search for ''lati@s'' at Pokémondb, you will find many question with that..

Is this someone of a banned word or people like that? I don't know xD

Lati@s refer to both Latias and Latios. It is simply a way to refer to both of them for less effort.
