Questions on Power/Guard Split Mechanics?

Question

First, does using one of these moves multiple times do anything? I was wondering this since I saw my opponents do this at the Battle Masion and was wondering if the opponent was just programmed to do stupid things like this or if it actually made a difference.

Second, when the Pokémon you use it on faints/switches out, do the effects remain for you, or is the change in your stats undone?

Guard/Power Split only work once if the move(s) have been used on the exact same Pokemon (and they haven't witched out), as it averages the stats. If the stats are already averaged, nothing will change.

The effects disappear when the Pokemon affected switches out/faints.
