Statues - What do they depict?

Question

In the Generation IV games and earlier, many statues present at Gym entrances and other places for decoration take the appearance of some sort of Pokémon or a Khangaskhan.

May I know what those statues actually are and why? I'll try to get a picture later if you don't know what I mean.

Well, little is known about these statues, but I found this which Is interesting. So apparently, rhydon was the first Pokemon to ever be created and I think the company
