Does Synchronize work in the Safari Zone?

Question

If I put my Gardevoir (with the ability Synchronize,of course) the first in my party,will the Pokemon I encounter in the Safari Zone have 50% of having the same nature as my Gardevoir?

Im pretty sure snchronize only works if you use your pokemon in battle

I tested it out with my Umbreon, and most of the pokemon I caught have the same nature, so I'm going to say that it does match even if the pokemon is not sent out.
