you could get the best of both worlds with a Poison/Dark type like Drapion :)

Gengar is the best Poison type in DP. You don't even have to trade for one if you own a Gen III cartridge. All you need to do is insert the Gen III cart, then go to Old Chateau and go to the room with the red eyes. There, you have a 4% chance of finding a level 16 Gengar. This can be obtained as soon as you beat the second Gym, and with Gengar's incredible stats, you have a huge advantage early game. And it remains incredible later in the game, what with its OU worthy offenses and fairly large movepool. Levitate is also a great ability.

If you don't have any of the Gen III games, Toxicroak is a good alternative, at least if you don't plan to use better Fighting type Pokemon. It has a nice base 106 Attack and a decent enough movepool to use. It's typing is pretty good, as it gets a lot of cool resists. Although it wouldn't be taking hits in competitive, ingame it can actually make use of those resists, as your opponents lack EV training and good IVs. Also has a Water immunity with Dry Skin.

The best Dark type available has gotta be Drapion (who also happens to have the Poison typing). Skorupi can be obtained at a decent point in the game. It evolves pretty late though and is somewhat rare, which is why I recommend Gengar and Toxicroak over it. It also doesn't have as good of offenses. However, it has a great movepool, with access to Earthquake, the elemental fangs, and good STAB options.

Other Poison types:

Crobat-Use Staraptor as your Flying type. Staraptor is pretty much the best Pokemon ever for ingame.
Roserade-It's a great Pokemon if you didn't pick Turtwig. I'd give it a shot if you already have a good Fighting type and are unable to get Gengar.
Haunter-If you are unable to get Gengar, that doesn't mean Haunter isn't an option. It's got decent offense and a nice movepool and typing. I wouldn't suggest using it though.
Tentacruel-While a weak movepool lets it down, it can be used if you aren't using the other Water types available. I would suggest using the other Water types though, as Tentacruel doesn't have the best offenses.

Other Dark types:

Weavile-The lack of a move tutor means that Weavile doesn't get a good Ice type attack. Combine that with the point at which you get it ingame, and Weavile is a no-no.
Spritomb-Not at all worth the work it takes to get it.

Weavile

Weavile @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Ice Punch
- Low Kick
- Night Slash
- Pursuit

Or Band

Weavile @ Choice Band
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Ice Punch
- Low Kick
- Night Slash
- Pursuit

Weavile finds itself in a solid position in UU as both a set-up sweeper and physical attacker. Without Scizor to scare it out, Weavile can successfully boost with Swords Dance, a move that only augements its already great base 120 Attack. Its base 125 Speed is not unwelcome either, as it places Weavile in a unique Speed tier that only the uncommon Swellow shares. Despite its frailty and weaknesses to Stealth Rock and Mach Punch, Weavile can fill a unique role with its stats and STABs.

Toxicroak

In game moveset.

  • Brick Break: Powerful fighting move, you get it from TM. It can break through Barriers!

  • Poison Jab: Powerful poison move, and 30% to poison.

  • Faint Attack: Why not? Always hit and overage.

  • Stone Edge: Very strong move, higher crit chance.

A competitive analysis is pretty much useless here. I'd suggest switching to the ingame uses of Weavile. Which you'll find are minimal in Pearl version due to a lack of a useful Ice type attack.
Ok, I add some other pokemon that are good in-game pokemon.

Poison types

These are a couple of decent poison types that are also available pretty early in the game (by they I mean their preevolutions), making them relatively easy to incorporate into your team

Crobat-sharp beak/toxic plate
Ability: Inner Focus
Nature: Adamant (in game pretty much any nature that doesn't hinder attack or speed is fine)
-Fly (transport and STAB)
-Cross Poison (STAB)
-U-turn/X-scissor (Psychic Coverage)
-Roost/steel wing (recovery or rock/ice coverage)

Need a flyer? Crobat's a fast little flying/poison type.

And the other

Roserade-Miracle Seed
Ability-Natural Cure
Nature: Timid (anything that doesn't hinder s-atk or speed
-Sunny Day (set up for solar beam and weather ball)
-Solarbeam (base 120 power STAB)
-Sludge Bomb (STAB)
-Weatherball (Under the sun, is base 150 power fire move. Ice/Steel coverage

Roserade's great special attacking ability coupled with its decent speed is sure to appease.

Dark Types!

I really like Dark types so here are some of my favorites!

Absol

Despite of Absols low defense its a Pokemon that hits hard!

  • Swords Dance
  • Sucker Punch
  • Psycho Cut
  • Will-o-Whisp

Another one of my Favs:

Weavile

Super fast and sweeps you off the floor! Weavile's high speed and attack is just awesome!

  • Ice Punch
  • Night Slash
  • Brick Break
  • Poison Jab

Here's one that you can include in both poison and dark types:

Drapion

Drapion is a bulky and pretty fast Pokemon, Its very tought to beat normally because it only has 1 weakness: Ground types. This Pokemon can actually last on your team for a pretty long time so "use it or lose it".

  • Cross Poison
  • X - Scissor
  • Night Slash
  • Confuse Ray/Aerial Ace
