Kyurem and Zekrom are........incompatible?

Question

So I was playing B2, and I decided to merge kyurem and zekrom to form a SUPER INCREDIBLE POKE-MACHINE! and it failed. My zekrom was from B2, but the kyurem was from my original black, so is that why it didnt work? so I guess my question is:

Do the two Pokemon being merged have to be from B2?

It has to be from Black/White 2.

At least the kyurem needs to be from the B2/W2. My brother gave me his reshiram from blac kand I fused it with my kyurem from B2 sucessfully.
