The main reason why you shouldn't be a fanboy is because it turns you into a terrible consumer.

48. Hearthstone: The most recent game on my list, this game just released about a month ago. I started playing it back in the open beta though. It's a CCG designed specifically for PC (and they just ported it to iOS). The game uses a free to play model, giving you some cards to start with, then allowing you to unlock some additional cards, and then unlock the rest by buying or winning packs. You can either spend real money to buy packs, or earn gold by battling and winning in the Arena. There are two main modes, standard and arena. Standard let's you use the deck you built. Arena costs money/gold, but allows you to draft a random deck, and then win prizes.

Instead of going into it with your mind set on a video game, think of it as a card game that just happens to be made for a system that happens to be able to play games. What you'll find is a game that just oozes polish. Somehow, they managed to make playing a game on your computer feel far more tactile than an actual card game. Things explode in a variety of satisfying effects, and there feels like real weight behind every attack you make. There's nothing more fun than just haphazardly throwing out a Pyroblast and just destroying your opponent. The cards each have their own summoning, attacking, and dying speech, their own flavor text, golden variations that have animations, and Legendaries even have special summoning animations. The boards themselves are interactive, with you being able to just break windows and fling rocks from a catapult while you wait for your opponent to make a move. The tutorial is amazing, and is perhaps the highest quality tutorial of any game I have played. And there is such a huge attention to detail. Such as the little known fact that when you play Illidan Stormrage against a Druid (Malfurion Stormrage, the estranged brother of Illidan) instead of him doing his normal "You are not prepared!" summoning dialogue, he will instead say "Hello... brother." This is a AAA CCG, perhaps the only one of its kind.

My highlight is easily the Arena. For about three months with a playtime of around 250 hours, I have been playing Arena. It is just so incredibly compelling. I've barely even touched the awesome Standard mode, because Arena is just incredible.

16. Count Vertigo: Mainly for the CW's Arrow version of the character, which is a rather insane drug manufacturer. He is quite the chilling villain, and I can't wait to see more of him. He also had a great run with the Suicide Squad, where the loss of his powers causes him much distress.

49. Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: An RTS in the vein of the Age of Empires series, with the theme of course being Star Wars. The factions tend to play similarly, with their being minute differences in tech, racial passives, and one or two unique units. This game is the first "real" PC game I played, where previously my only experience on the PC was with crappy Disney shovelware titles. It started my love of the RTS genre, which is a rather barren genre unfortunately.

The game has a strong campaign, split into six parts (eight with the expansion) of around seven missions each. The missions are lengthy, have a number of objectives to accomplish, a fair amount of side objectives to discover, and tend to be difficult in later missions. There is also a skirmish mode with a large amount of customization, and plenty of map types to choose from. The maps are significantly larger than other RTS maps, which can lead to lengthy games and the construction of defensive structures. This is rather enjoyable to play, especially if you want long play sessions. The game has a very easy to learn Scenario Editor also, so you can create your own maps/campaign missions. Another interesting thing is the cheats, which you can use to summon the Death Star, a Star Destroyer, a Corellian Corvette, and the most overpowered Ewok ever.

The highlight of the game for me is the Gungan campaign. This is really the only piece of media that makes the Gungans feel like a welcome part of the Star Wars universe (well, besides the Battlefront 2 mode where you basically just slaughter Gungans). The Gungans have the most interesting racial passives of all the races in my opinion, and there are a lot of great missions to follow in a storyline that for the most part portrays events not seen in the movies.

17. Victor Zsasz: In a world full of over the top characters, Victor Zsasz stands out as being a character who you could actually see meeting in real life. Well, you aren't likely to meet such a person, unless you have the misfortune of running across a serial killer. The normality of the character makes him incredibly interesting, and the fact that he is just a common psycho disturbs the heroes of Gotham City. Batman once said that the person he hated dealing with the most was Zsasz.

I haven't picked up all the SMT games yet, but in terms of story from what I've played, there's nothing you really need to know from the previous games to pick up the ones you mentioned. The games are all pretty much standalone, so you don't need one game in order to understand the events of another. At the most, you'll see some nods and references to previous games, but nothing that would hinder your understanding of the story.

Strange journey in particular is a standalone, so you won't have any issues. It did feel a bit dated as a DS title, but it's still alright. I still feel the Persona series has a tighter battle system and story though, but it's not to say that Strange Journey is a throwaway game.
