Its not the "rmt" glitch in particular, it can be used in all sections. You hide all the stuff you've posted, including questions, answers and comments in a section. If there's something you cant see, then you posted in on a question which was hidden (like my 4 rmt comments which dont show up). You need to ask a staff member to hide them or it'll not work. After this, you have 0 activity in that section and the site thinks of you as a "new user" and when you click on Edit Profile, you'll also get an option to edit your username.
