If you have a good competitive moveset for Mimikyu, post an answer below and upvote the best ones. Movesets for its pre-evolutions, if any, can also be shared on this thread.

Be sure to include full set details in your post, e.g. items, abilities, natures and EVs. Some detail, including the intended game mode for your set, is also appreciated. Access the full list of guidelines here.

Mimikyu Pokédex and learnset for reference.

Whoever voted down MovesetBot, please do not do that.
I wonder if someone will post a Z-Splash meme set.
There was a Z splash set at Solgaleo's question.
Where did my answer go?

Mimikyu @ Red Card
Type : Ghost / Fairy
Ability : Disguise
Nature : Brave ( Atk+ Spe- ) / Jolly ( Spe+ Spa- )
EVs : 252 Atk / 148 Def / 108 SpD

  • Swords Dance
  • Play Rough
  • Shadow Sneak
  • Wood Hammer

You actually need Brave nature to activate Red Card at the very start while dealing with faster attackers, or you could get Jolly nature to use Swords Dance at the first turn while dealing with slower attackers. Red Card can deal with sweepers, switching them out so that you could use Swords Dance without the opponent attacking. With Disguise, you are free to use Swords Dance once or even twice. After your Disguise is broke, you can start to sweep with priority move Shadow Sneak. Play Rough for STAB and Wood Hammer for more coverage.

Hold on for a moment...Disguise can be broken with any damage-dealing move, not only Super Effective ones
Oh ok thanks I knew that.
Why is Brave any better than Adamant?
Instead of wood hammer I will go for Drain punch for coverage

This is for 1v1:

Mimikyu @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 244 HP / 12 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Curse
- Substitute
- Protect
- Play Rough

(hopefully you're faster) Basically, first turn it uses curse, and cuts you down to 50%. then the opponent attacks or uses stat boosting move. Attacking breaks disguise. Then use substitute, bringing you down to 25% health, which will make you eat your berry, healing back to 75% health. opponent attacks, and your substitute breaks, or holds. Then spam substitute, and in a few turns, you opponent is dead from curse. You can also stall with protect, or attack w/ Play Rough.

Mimikyu
Item: Fairium Z/Life Orb/Ghostium Z
Nature: Jolly/Adamant
Ability: Disquise
EV Spread: 252 Attack/252 Speed/6 HP
-Swords Dance
- Play Rough
-Shadow Claw
-Shadow Sneak

Swords Dance will be be to boost your Attack until your disquise is lost (You don't stop boosting till its lost). Play Rough and Shadow Claw are your main means of damage, plus STAB bonus. Shadow Sneak is to make sure you hit before your opponent does. You can run a Life Orb to boost your damage out-put even more, or Fairium Z or Ghostium Z if you wish to have a Z-Move to remove major threats quickly.

I love this set. I think Jolly Nature is better than Adamant because so you can outspeed
Some Pokemon that aren't Scarfed.

Mimikyu @ Life Orb
Ability: Disguise
Jolly Nature
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

  • Shadow Sneak
  • Play Rough
  • Wood Hammer
  • Drain Punch

Set-up Mimikyu is so predictable, everyone is just gonna use taunt on you, little did they know those fools have wasted a turn and have wasted their lives.

According to Pikalytics, it depends on what tier are you playing in. Lets say, you're playing gen 8 ubers, then here are the statistics:
The moves statistics
-Play Rough-96.781%
-Shadow Claw-81.721%
-Trick Room-50.259%
-Swords Dance-48.605%
-Shadow Sneak-47.556%
-Destiny Bond-47.550%
-Drain Punch-12.597%
-Other-14.932%

So I think that Trick Room is great, as it makes Mimikyu eliminate fast sweepers. Play Rough and Shadow Claw are all STAB moves which are mostly chosen. Swords Dance with Disguise is a great combination so it can make it more powerful, but Dragapult with Infiltrator is all it takes to OHKO this Mimikyu. Shadow Sneak would be good to go first when your opponent has little HP left, plus Shadow Sneak has STAB, so it many people chose this. Destiny Bond, well, I wouldn't say this move is a waste of space in your moveset, but, if you utilize it correctly you might be able to work out a strategy with it, which few people succeeded to do. Drain Punch is, well, you know what, lets just say it only gives Mimikyu back its HP, though I would recommend using Play Rough and Shadow Claw over Drain Punch. Other moves are well, utilized by their own strategy.

Items recommended for Mimikyu
Life Orb 85.409%
Leftovers 4.682%
Focus Sash 2.232%
Red Card 1.025%
Figy Berry 0.901%
Expert Belt 0.832%
Other 4.921%
This is up to you, as I think each one of them is good if it is corresponding to your strategy.
EV spreads
Brave 252/252/0/0/4/0/ 46.476%
Jolly 0/252/0/0/4/252/ 33.209%
Adamant 4/252/0/0/0/252/ 4.281%
Adamant 0/252/4/0/0/252/ 3.958%
Jolly 4/252/0/0/0/252/ 2.603%
Jolly 0/252/4/0/0/252/ 1.763%
This is also up to you, as it should be corresponding to your strategy.
Teammates
Melmetal-48.401%
Lunala-46.513%
Necrozma-Dusk-Mane-46.302%
Reshiram-44.898%
Ferrothorn-24.570%
Toxapex-23.614%
Ditto-23.206%
Excadrill-23.104%
Tyranitar-21.702%
Coalossal-4.071%
Aegislash-3.118%
Haxorus-1.965%
This is according to your strategy for your ideal teammate for Mimikyu, so just choose one that will help you succeed with your strategy with Mimikyu.

All in all, I would have a Mimikyu with this moveset:

Mimikyu@Leftovers
Ability: Disguise
Nature: Adamant
EV: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpD
-Play Rough
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
-Substitute

Play Rough-STAB move with a powerful 90 BP.
Rest-Recover
Sleep Talk-Use moves while asleep
Substitute-Use Substitute for your free Substitute (Disguise)

252 HP is so Mimikyu can use Substitute more often.

This is just my opinion-you still can make a lot of changes in it, so no need to try criticizing my moveset, since you still can make your own moveset which is probably better than mine, because mine's I got it from Pikalytics.

Hope you find this helpful :).

With no trick room, why brave?
How does 252 HP allow you to substitute more?
Your set is basically ruined by Taunt users.

Well, time to make a set for the third most popular pokémon nowdays

Mimikyu @ Life Orb
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 252 Atk/ 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Claw
- Play Rough
- Drain Punch

Get free Swords Dance(s) Behind the disguise, just be careful with Mold Breakers
Once the "Setuping" is done, Attack. Shadow Claw and Play Rough are it's STAB moves, while Drain Punch is coverage against most Steel types

Role: Sweeper
Item: Normalium Z/ghostium Z/ Fairium Z
Nature: Jolly
EV's: 252 atk, 252 spe, 4 hp
Moves:
splash/swords dance
Play rough
Shadow Claw
Shadow Sneak

Normalium Z is for splash, and ghost/ fairy Z is for play rough or shadow claw.

by
why splash over swords dance?
It’s because of Z-Splash. It raises attack more than Swords Dance does. (3 stages instead of 2)

Here is my moveset for Mimikyu:

Pokemon: Mimikyu
Item: Mimikium Z
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Adamant Nature

  • Swords Dance
  • Play Rough
  • Shadow Claw
  • Shadow Sneak/Drain Punch`

Swords Dance doubles Mimikyu’s attack, and thanks to Disguise, is safe while doing so. Play Rough is great STAB, and allows Mimikyu to use Let’s Snuggle Forever, a move that dents anything that doesn’t resist it. Shadow Claw is for ghost type STAB. Shadow Sneak is for priority, but Drain Punch can be used for coverage and some recovery.

The EVs given are to maximize Mimikyu’s sweeping ability. Disguise is to be unharmed during the setup turn. Mimikium Z is essential, turning Play Rough into Let’s Snuggle Forever. Finally, an adamant nature allows Mimikyu to hit as hard as possible.

Counters:

Lunala: Outspeeds Mimikyu and breaks through disguise with a super effective STAB Moongeist Beam. However, does not like switching into a 2+ Shadow Claw.

Mold Breaker: Disguise is useless.

Toxapex: Can't be OHKOed by Mimikyu, and eliminates Swords Dance boosts with Haze.

Let me know if I missed anything.

This Mimikyu is a beast that your opponent should fear!

I’d upvote, but this was blatantly stolen from smogon
I looked at smogon, and I did not see this set. I knew that this was a standard set, and wanted to replace shadow sneak with wood hammer, but that would check pretty much nothing. Looking at molthree's set, drain punch might be a cool idea.
Please still upvote!
Drain Punch covers Steel types and makes sure Bisharp (or any Steel type) can't Iron Head. So yeah, Drain Punch can be an option. Though bulky Magearna might wall this :P
252+ Atk Life Orb Mimikyu Shadow Claw vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Magearna: 91-109 (30.2 - 36.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Without Lefties:
252+ Atk Life Orb Mimikyu Shadow Claw vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Magearna: 91-109 (30.2 - 36.2%) -- 45.2% chance to 3HKO
Alright I upvoted
Thank you so much!

Gen 9 Doubles UU

Mimikyu @ Mental Herb
Ability: Disguise
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Will-O-Wisp
- Play Rough
- Shadow Sneak

Thanks to it's great ability in Disguise and an immunity to Fake Out, Mimikyu is currently one of the most reliable Trick Room setters in the format, and is a great fit for Semi-Room and Full-Room teams. Trick Room is excellent speed control in doubles, turning the tables against faster teams. Will-O-Wisp lets Mimikyu spread burns, crippling physical attckers. Play Rough is Fairy STAB, capable of OHKOing Gallade, Meowscarada and Breloom (assuming the latter two are not holding a Focus Sash). Shadow Sneak is priority STAB, finishing off fast opponents both in and outside of Trick Room.

Mental Herb allows Mimikyu to ignore Taunt once. With the combination of Mental Herb and Disguise, it is very hard to knock out Mimikyu before it can set up Trick Room early game (especially when it's paired with a Fake Out user such as Hariyama, another excellent Pokémon on Trick Room teams). Tera Water allows Mimikyu to survive Scizor's Bullet Punch or Tinkaton's Gigaton Hammer in a pinch.

Mimikyu @ Pixie Plate / Ghost Gem
Ability: Disguise
EV's: 252 HP / 252 Sp. Atk / 6 Spd.
Nature: Lax (+Def. -Sp. Def)
Mimikyu is cute.

  • Toxic (Badly poisons foe, good for a sweep.)
  • Shadow Claw (STAB, High critical hit ratio.)

  • Destiny Bond (Good for dealing with Metagross-Mega.)

  • Play Rough (STAB, Very powerful move)

Ghost/Fairy is very good typing! It can counter Dragon, Ghost , psychic, Fighting, and Dark-types! Wow!
Don't judge that Mimikyu only has 1 resistance. Plus, what makes it annoying is that its ability. Disguise makes it so mimikyu has no effect on a move once it enters battle, then, disguise pops. The rest of turns can hit mimikyu.

Mimikyu @ Life Orb / Lum Berry / Focus Sash

Nature: Jolly

  • Play Rough
  • Swords Dance
  • Shadow Claw
  • Shadow Sneak

Mimikyu:
Item: Big Root (you'll see why) or Focus Sash or Leftovers
Nature: Jolly (+Speed - Sp. Atk)
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP

Moves:
Shadow Claw (STAB, best physical ghost move for Mimikyu, great damage)
Leech Life (This + Big Root gives a TON of healing, 65% of damage done, and is fantastic for when something break your disguise but just doesn't kill you)
Play Rough (STAB, great damage)
Swords Dance (Disguise + this = free attack boost, making all of its moves incredibly viable)

The reason I do Speed and Attack over HP even though I run Big Root is so it can outspeed to get the healing, and when it heals it heals a large portion of its health. Or you can run Sash if you feel that's too gimmicky and want to ensure survival, or even maybe leftovers if you like the idea of healing, just not relying on Leech Life because Mimikyu is somewhat bulky.

Mimikyu @Focus Sash
Ability: Disguise
Nature: Hasty
Evs: 252 Atk/ 252 Speed

  • Swords Dance
  • Play Rough
  • Shadow Claw
  • Pain Split

Though this set seems a little weird, it's fairly evil. My mimikyu actually has zero ivs in physical defense. I mainly use her to take down physical attackers. The goal in this is to make sure that if hit with a physical attacker, it goes down in one hit, activating the focus sash and allowing it to use pain split. If that doesn't work, it should be able to attack well enough to take out most opponents, especially with swords dance.
I know it's weird but it's saved my life before. :P

Mimikyu @ Leftovers/Big Root
Ability: Disguise
Ev's: 252 SpD / 126 Hp / 126 Atk / 4 Def
Careful Nature (+SpD, -SpA)

  • Bulk up
  • Leech Life
  • Will-O-Wisp
  • Shadow Claw/Play Rough

Explanation: This Mimikyu set is suppose to be a Bulky Staller set. Item of choice is Leftovers to gain a little Hp every turn or Big Root to get more Hp back from Leech Life. Bulk up Raises Mimikyu's Attack and Defense by One Stage. Leech Life is used for healing. Will-O-Wisp burns your foe and lowers their Attack making Mimikyu even Bulkier. Shadow Claw is Ghost type STAB or Play Rough is Fairy type STAB.

This is my first moveset. Criticism is accepted and appreciated.
Mimikyu @ Shell Bell
Ability: Disguise (duh)
Adamant nature (+atk -spatk)
EVs: 252 atk, 252 sp. def, 4 hp
Moves:
Bulk up
Shadow Claw/Sneak
Play rough
Wood Hammer (it's in the actual learnset of mimikyu, no joke)/Steel Coverage?

Explanation:
Bulk Up is the basis of the whole build. You get at least one for free, so use it as much as possible to make you bulkier and more deadly. Shadow claw is for ghost types, (also STAB) same with shadow sneak, but if you take shadow sneak, you want to lay down a few more bulk ups. Play rough is STAB, fairy type for great coverage. Wood Hammer is a great move, but you need shell bell to help negate the absolutely atrocious recoil.
Countered by:
Crobat, Dugtrio, Excadrill, Magnezone, Gengar, Sableye

Swords and Sneak Dancing Mimikyu
Mimikyu @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 200 Atk, 252 Spe, 56 HP
Nature: Jolly

  • Play Rough
  • Swords Dance
  • Shadow Sneak
  • Substitute

This set is weird, but it works.
First set up a substitute. then use swords dance a couple times(Recommended 2). if you are running low Sitrus Berry Help you out. Then shadow sneak /play rough, Since swords dance are setted up, shadow sneak will deal a lot too.

Mimikyu @ Normalium Z

Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SAtk)
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef

  • Shadow Sneak
  • Z-Splash
  • Leech Life/Wood Hammer
  • Play Rough

Shadow Sneak and Play Rough are STAB (and Shadow Sneak has priority). Shadow Claw offers more power and a higher critical hit ratio than Shadow Sneak, but doesn't have priority. Z-Splash is for boosting Attack, and Leech Life is for coverage and healing. Wood Hammer is for coverage and is far more powerful than Leech Life, but causes the user to recieve recoil damage.

Support Build Mimikyu
Mimikyu @ Light Clay / Iapapa Berry
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Def / 128 SpD
Impish Nature
- Light Screen
- Bulk Up
- Play Rough / Shadow Claw / Leech Life
- Trick Room / Will-O-Wisp / Reflect

The idea is that the little guy leads. With the EV spread, both of his defences round up around the same area, which allows it to tank on either side, setting Light Screen for itself (and teammates) if it's against a special attacker, or beginning to bulk up if it's a physical attacker. Bulk Up also utilizes the little guy's decent attack. Play Rough is for STAB and also for if you fear more physical attackers. (As it has a chance to lower attack) Shadow Claw is for if you want raw damage and to abuse Bulk Up. Leech Life is for regen, if you wanna be more tanky.

Don't take Will-O-Wisp or Reflect if you take Play Rough, since you're already covering for pysical. (Unless you wanna be dual Screener.) Also, I thought Trick Room was a good move to further Mimikyu's support. If you take Shadow Claw, either three moves can work for last slot. Same goes for Leech Life, but I don't recommend Trick Room if you do take Leech Life.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

I'd appreciate any constructive criticism and opinions on this moveset! :)
Uhh ok.. Alolan ninetales is playable in OU for the auora veil so get light screen out of there. I like the will-o-wisp though. Replace light screen with maybe swords Dance, don’t run reflect, maybe shadow sneak instead of reflect, because once you set up with a swords Dance, priority shadow sneak is DEADLY.

Special Mimikyu

Mimikyu @ Choice Specs
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Dazzling Gleam
- Psychic / Giga Drain / Hidden Power [Fire]
- Thunderbolt

Choice Specs boost your Special Attack. Shadow Ball and Dazzling Gleam are STAB. Psychic, Giga Drain, HP Fire, and Thunderbolt are coverage. Psychic only hits Poison-types and a few specific Pokémon for extra damage, so Giga Drain or HP Fire can be used to have more overall coverage.

I like it!

Mimikyu
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Attack/Defense
Nature: Jolly
Item: Focus Sash/Leftovers

Moves:
Swagger
Psych Up
Play Rough
Shadow Claw/Leech Life/Will-O-Wisp

How this works is you use Swagger first turn and hopefully outspeed the opponent, which is why you need max speed investment. Swagger would've confused the opponents and raised their attack. Now use Psych Up to copy the opponent's raised attack. Now, you can use Will-O-Wisp to burn them so the boost is no longer dangerous or just attack using the moves above. Focus Sash is recommended over Leftovers for extra longevity but leftovers may be useful paired with Leech Life. This set is incredibly unpredictable and you can easily take your opponent by surprise, but it is based a little on luck because of hitting through confusion, but that's why I recommend using the Focus Sash for more turns to attack.

Better is sword dance than swagger and psych up, good strategy but for pokemon without possibility of learning sword dance. I will replace Swagger for Leech Life, psych up is good when enemy is boosting any stat like def or speed.
