PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

All right, so I have a question about breeding. This is a Generation 5 breeding question. Scenario: I have two pokemon:

Tyranitar (M) @Everstone
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP/ 104 Atk/ 152 SpD/ <---(Don't know if it matters)
Nature: Adamant(+Atk, -SpA)
-Stealth Rock
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Crunch

IVs: 31 HP, 31 Atk, 31 Def, 31 SpA, 31 SpD, 31 Spe

Who is breeding with:

Ditto @ (No Item)
Trait: Limber
EVs: (none)
Hardy Nature: (+Atk, -Atk)
-Transform

According to bulbapedia, the site I've been following for breeding, the following should happen:

  • Baby larvitar has Stealth Rock, an Egg Move
  • Larvitar has an Adamant Nature
  • Larvitar should have perfect IVs (Getting 3 IV stats from the Ditto, 3 IV stats from the T-tar, since they're all perfect the larvitar should have perfect IVs)

However, some things are not working. My problems are:

  • About 30% of the time, the larviatar has a random nature (not adamant)
  • Using the Serebii IV calculator to calculate, the Larvitars that are bred do not have perfect stats.

Questions:

  1. Why isn't it always getting an adamant nature?
  2. Why isn't it getting perfect IVs?
  3. If the larvitar DOES have perfect IVs, what will it's characteristic be?

Please do not answer the question or comment with more questions like: Why do you need another Tyranitar if you have a perfect one in the first place? This is just one scenario. I've had lots of breeding troubles, and I'd like to find out why.

If you answer this question correctly, and help me out, you get Bonus points and a golden cookie.

I'm not getting into this too deeply, but I can tell you that if larvitar has perfect IVs his HP type will be dark.
...Thanks? XD

1) Why isn't it always getting an adamant nature?

It is only a 50/50 chance that the parent holding the Everstone will pass it's nature down. (Fun Fact: In B2W2, it a 100% chance,)

2) Why isn't it getting perfect IVs?

Ok, rewind. You will get 3 IVs from the parents meaning 1 IV from let's say. Ttar, and 2 from Ditto, not 3 each (or the other way around). They will also be different (Both parents will not give their Atk IVs.) If you give Tyranitar the Power Bracer, it will pass down it's Attack IV and then 2 different IVs are passed down from either parent. If both hold Power Items, the baby will get one or the other, not both.

(Ditto + Power Weight) + (Tyranitar + Power Bracer) = Baby with either Ditto's HP IV OR Tyranitar's Atk IV. Then 2 different random IVs other than Attack or HP, depending on what you get.

The last 3 IVs are random.

3) If the Larvitar DOES have perfect IVs, what will it's characteristic be?

(Often dozes off, Likes to thrash about, Capable of taking hits, Mischievous, Somewhat vain, Alert to sounds).

It does not matter which one you get. The game just picks a random IV of 31 out of the perfect group and gives you that characteristic.

And before i get crap from anyone, i posted my answer and it was the only one, so i decided to edit in some images and add a little more info and take away the info that was not needed. Then i saved the edit and saw Rio posted. So don't say anything about trying to out-do her.
No, no he answered first. And its a great answer. Good job! •^-^•
Technically if I want a larvitar with an adamant nature, then I can only have a power item on my ditto. That's 1 Stat. When the egg hatches, the rest of the IVs are a gamble? Aren't some from the parents? If so, how many?
It does not gain 3 IVs from each, but 3 collectively from both. So Ttar can give Atk & SpDef while you get Ditto's Def IV. The other 3 IVs are a gamble.
Well, that just doesn't make things easier :\ Thanks anyway for the answer!

Okay, leggo! ;P

For the games from Pokémon Emerald onwards, you have the ability to pass Natures on through breeding. This is done by attaching the Everstone to either of the Pokémon or the Ditto. Once attached, there is a 50% chance of the baby Pokémon having the nature of the female. This changed to being for either Pokémon in HeartGold & SoulSilver and changed to a 100% likelihood of passing down in Black 2 & White 2.

1). The Everstone only has a 50% chance of getting the same nature as its parent.

HeartGold & SoulSilver add another means to transfer specific IVs over from parent to child. The manner of doing this is in having either parent hold a specific item. These Items are the "Power" Items introduced in Diamond & Pearl which boosted Effort Values earned when held. Attach these Items to either of the parents and their specific Individual Value will be passed on to the baby. Consult the table below to see which item causes the baby to inherit which stat.

This allows you to send one Individual Values to your baby Pokémon, leaving the rest determined the same way as in the past with some random and some selected randomly from the parents. If you do it to both parents, you'll get a chance of one stat or the other, not both.

2). Big cut from Serebii. xD Anyways, pretty self-explainatory.

~ Yes, it should have Stealth Rock as an Egg Move. It should also have Earthquake and Stone Edge because they're TMs and the Male Father (Tyranitar) is able to pass them down.

Hope this helps! ;P

Don't worry, you get a golden cookie too.
