Like if oh, I don't know, an ice-type uses flare blitz or if a water type uses wild charge

by
Most recoil moves do recoil damage depending on how much damage the target took. So if you use flare blitz and it hits an ice Pokemon, it'll do more recoil damage because it did more damage to the target. If the user is weak to the move's type, that doesn't affect recoil.

[insert recoil move here] inflicts damage, and the user receives recoil damage equal to ⅓ of the damage done to the target.

This phrase is stated on every recoil move's Bulbapedia page. Recoil is dependent on the loss of the target's HP, multiplied by 1/3. Therefore it is possible for a Pokemon to OHKO itself from recoil if, for example, a Pokemon with less or equal to 1/3 the HP of a high level Blissey was able to OHKO it with a recoil move.

Hope I could help, please ask if you have more questions!

I think mind blown and steel beam count as recoil moves even though they have different mechanics. Their recoil is still not affected by type weaknesses, though.
they damage even if they miss (maybe not mind blown but i know steel beam does it no matter what)
Mind Blown and Steel Beam always take away 50% of maximum HP as "recoil" even if it misses
> The user of Mind Blown will take damage even if the target is protected from it, if it hits a substitute, if the move misses, or if the target has Flash Fire. If Mind Blown fails due to there being no targets (i.e. if all Pokémon in range fainted before the move was used), the user does not take damage.
> The user of Steel Beam will take damage even if the target is protected from it, if it hits a substitute, or if the move misses. If Steel Beam fails due to there being no targets (i.e. if all Pokémon in range fainted before the move was used), the user does not take damage.
