Actually, that is a Shiny butterfree. Pokemon Stadium 1 made it where if you nicknamed your pokemon, it would give an alternate color palette. Though they didn't hit handheld games until gen II, the concept of shiny pokemon has been around for some time. It wouldn't make sense for each of the same pokemon to look exactly the same.
Several shinies have hit the anime, like Ash's Noctowl.
