Does shutting off my switch reset my encounter chain in shield?

Because I know turning it off resets the catch combo in LGPE but I’m not sure about shield

Sword and Shield don't have catch combos and there are no "encounter chains". What you're talking about is a static record of how many Pokemon you faint, so shutting off your Switch shouldn't affect anything.

You're absolutely right. I know this from experience as well.

There is no chain, it just increases slightly after each 100 Pokemon you encounter. It caps at 500, HOWEVER...the method is bugged, and there is only a 3% chance that you will get the increase once you hit 500. That's why people are getting to chains of over 1,000 (I myself got to over 4,000) and still have no shinies.

It's a crap method.

Just FYI, for the counter to go up you have to actually faint the Pokemon -- and that's why this has been dubbed the "Murder Method"

Actually, I think catching does work too. Yes, it does. Most people just tend to faint 'em, though.

Yeah, the info on that page is correct in terms of the Murder Method. But the method it is describing has NO chains involved. There are no chain shiny-methods in SWSH. People are upvoting this guy's answer because he was correcting you on that. In your question you talk about encounter chains like in LGPE, but those are NOT actually a thing in SWSH and any article claiming otherwise is false (people erroneously thought the method involved such chains before dataminers found the actual specs on the method).

FlappersFlappers literally said that it was something people thought, until dataminers figured out otherwise. Therefore, that article was probably written before, when people thought the method existed. I would recommend you listen to people, because sometimes, you know, they’re right.
