Would a Crawdaunt with Adaptability boost Knock Off to 162.5 (2.5x power increase) if used on an opponent holding an item?
Curious.

Knock Off = 65 Power

If Knock Off is used against a Pokémon with a held item it will deal 50% more damage as long as the target is not holding a Mega Stone, or is Giratina holding a Griseous Orb or is Arceus holding one of it's Plates. So if it deals 50% more damage, the power of Knock Off would be 97.5 (65 x 1.5 = 97.5).

Stab/Adaptability

If the Pokémon with Knock Off is a Dark type, Knock Off will be boosted by 1.5 because of STAB. So with STAB the power of Knock Off would be 146.25 (97.5 x 1.5 = 146.25). If the Pokémon with Knock Off is a Dark type and has Adaptability, Knock Off will be boosted by 2 instead of 1.5. So the power of Knock Off would be 195 (97.5 x 2 = 195).

So no if your Crawdaunt has Adaptability and used Knock Off on a Pokémon with a held item the power of Knock Off would be 195 not 162.5

Hope I helped :)

Are you sure? I thought the damage modifiers would increase the move's power based on it's original base power, not the new power gained by other damage modifiers. By that logic you could say that Scizor's bullet punch would be increased to 90 instead of 80. Just saying I'm not sure these calculations are valid.
Yes I'm sure. Also if a Scizor used Bullet Punch with Technician it would equal 90 Base Power not 80.

Scizor's Bullet Punch = 40 Base Power
With Technician = 40 x 1.5 = 60 Base Power
With STAB = 60 x 1.5 = 90 Base Power

Here is a link to back up my calculations --> http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Talk:Bullet_Punch_(move)

"Knock off this gen also received a huge buff in damage to 65 BP, which becomes 97 BP if the target is holding an item, which further increases to a massive 194 BP thanks to Adaptability, making it THE strongest unboosted Physical Dark typed attack in the entire tier."

I really like some of the explanations on here but I thought this might help people.
Its not
65 x 1.5=97.5
97.5 x 2=195
That does give you the correct number and is a very valid way of doing it but those who seemed still a little unconvinced that it’s correct the way to think about it is the bonuses is actually calculated first. So the math is actually.
Bonus calculation-> 1.5 x 2=3
Move calculation-> 3 x 65=195
So lets say you are attacking a Pokemon that resist dark it would be.
Bonus calculation-> 1.5 x 2 x 0.5=1.5
Move calculation-> 1.5 x 65=97.5
So the equation is
(Bonus)*(Bonus)…..=(Multiplier)
(Multiplier)*(Base Power)=(Power)
M x B=P
I hope that helps clear up some of the controversy and maybe explain things a little better. Because if everything is just getting multipled together then order doesn't matter.

It might matter because Pokemon rounding is weird. Sometimes it rounds down, sometimes it rounds to the nearest integer and rounds half up, and sometimes it rounds to the nearest integer and rounds half down.

2.5x power increase? That's very very nice.

Against a low-Defense opponent holding an item (no weakness/resistance/crit):

252+ Atk Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Blissey: 922-1086 (129.1 - 152.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Against a high-Defense opponent holding an item (no weakness/resistance/crit):

252+ Atk Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aggron: 104-124 (30.2 - 36%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Actually Adaptability isn't 2.5x. It is a 1.5x boost to STAB, meaning that it is 2x rather than 2.5x. Still overpowered though, since it is basically a free Choice item on your STAB.

Crawdaunt Knock Off vs Walls and resist.

252+ Atk Life Orb Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 232+ Def Skarmory: 164-195 (49.1 - 58.3%) -- 64.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Life Orb Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 273-322 (70.7 - 83.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Life Orb Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 156-185 (48 - 56.9%) -- 89.1% chance to 2HKO

Crawdaunt with Status.

252+ Atk Life Orb Adaptability burned Crawdaunt Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Jellicent: 382-452 (94.5 - 111.8%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

252+ Atk Life Orb Adaptability burned Crawdaunt Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Medicham: 110-130 (42.1 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Summary.

Knock Off is a very popular move this metagame due to its buff. Crawdaunt receives both STAB and Adaptability boost on Knock Off bringing it to a base 195 Attack. This paired with Crawdaunt's already scary attack stat can deal some pretty incredible damage. Not to mention most people will run Swords Dance allowing them to get a +2 Adamant Stab Adaptability Knock Off. Things that can hit Crawdaunt hard are Scarfers who resist his STAB priority Aqua Jet, such as Latios, Hydreigon, Salamence. Or Bulky attackers like Azumarill.
